Animal control agencies and humane societies can attest to the fact that pets are lost every day. Many do not have identification or a microchip.

GPS tracking devices greatly increase the odds that you will find your pet quickly and safely. They are relatively inexpensive, certainly less than a reward you might have to offer to find a pet, and the peace of mind they provide is worth a fortune. The collars are light, come in variety of sizes and are waterproof and durable. This is a statement of the benefits of GPS Tracking.  One of the best ways to look at this is to realize that there didn’t use to be anything like this in our society.  Talk about vulnerability!  And, with the complexity of today’s lifestyles and difficulty with economic times in which we live, it is hard to think about life without tracking devices.

Tracking Anywhere Anytime. From the 24 satellites that are in orbit around the earth, we can track almost anything anywhere it goes at anytime.  That is, unless it goes into an area that is impervious to satellite signals.  But, even that is not completely hopeless, because the tracking history on an item can help at least provide a location of its last known address.  That gives a starting point for authorities to begin a search.  Think about how this could have helped Amelia Earhart in her effort to circumnavigate the earth in her airplane.  She could have been located and rescued.

Vehicle Tracking. We spend a lot of time in our cars.  And, some tragic events have occurred in them that could have been mitigated with GPS Tracking.  Would the outcome of Chappaquiddick been any different if a GPS Tracking device had been onboard?  Is it possible that Mary Jo Kopechne would be alive today?  Pure speculation, but the use of GPS technology has already produced results that have save people’s lives.

If only, if only, if only…but who wants to live in the past?  Let’s use technology that is available to use to better our lives and communities.

Safety and Security. People who place themselves at risk should use GPS Tracking devices.  This includes those who are involved in simple things like cycling and running for exercise.  It can be a dangerous thing to run or bike on the streets and roads around the cities and towns in which they live.  So, why not include a tracking device to help in case something should happen?

This also goes for people who enjoy long treks in the wild or repelling down mountainous crags from dangerous heights.  Extreme sports activities carry their own risk for the participants.

Even those who are just taking a vacation with family and do not plan dangerous activities would benefit, too.  During the summer, some of the worst accidents occur and GPS Tracking can be there just in case.

GPS shoes can be used for many different applications, such as, child safety and the safety of elderly with dementia.  These shoes can help you keep your loved ones out of dangerous areas and close by you at all times—all without them even knowing.  The only downside of these shoes is that they are quite expensive; they start around $300.  They are pricey, but they are well worth it since you can’t put a price on life.

Technology over the years has given us some amazing things—one of which is the GPS tracking device.  GPS tracking devices utilize satellites in space that receive information and transmit it back to earth to various receivers.  These devices can be installed in a car with or without the owner’s knowledge.  GPS tracking devices can locate a car in real time, which means that you can watch it en route on your computer, or you can remove the device and read the car’s travel history.  Either way, GPS tracking devices are helpful pieces of electronic technology.

GPS tracking devices are especially helpful when tracking cars that belong to people with questionable activities.  One example of this was recently reported in Hutchinson, Kansas.  There was a serial burglar on the loose, and the police had a hunch who the culprit was, but they needed to be sure.  The Hutchinson police department received a court order to place a GPS tracking device on the car belonging to the couple in question.

The suspected burglars had no idea that the tracking device was on their car, and their activity level and patterns reflected just that.  The police received an exact location of the perpetrators and their car every five minutes, and they were in the vicinity of a series of seven homes that were robbed in one afternoon.

The information about the car that the police received was enough to send the case to court.  This gives the police a chance to prosecute this couple and put an end to the serial burglaries.  The GPS tracking device is the true hero in this situation.  It was able to catch the burglars in action and put them at the scene of the crime.

While the police were able to receive information every five minutes as to where the serial burglars were, there is another way to use tracking devices.  If you do not have the time to watch a vehicle in real time, you can simply take the removable tracking device off the car and connect it to your computer.  You can easily look at details about the car’s usage; you can see where and when it was driven, as well as the location of stops and the speeds at which it drives.  This capability also comes in handy to the police who find GPS to be an effective crime fighting tool.

Remember the children’s book, “Where’s Waldo?”  This popular series has been a source of entertainment for children and adults since its first appearance in 1987.  It is possible to stare for hours at one page searching for the main character—Waldo.  You might even need the assistance of a magnifying glass!  He’s always somewhere in the busy artwork on each page.  Sometimes he’s in an exotic locale; sometimes one of thousands of highly individual characters on a page. 

Finding Waldo can be a challenge, but it can also be difficult to keep track of real people in your life.  With families fragmented off on different work and school schedules, it is important to stay connected.  It is particularly important for parents to be able to find the location of children, many of whom are involved in after-school activities, sports, or jobs.  A family with three children may very well have seven different schedules!  In families where both parents work, it is usually very difficult for even one parent to be able to get off work to monitor children and teenagers in the after school hours.
